Collaboration with Flowrsinher Hair

In case you didn’t know Flowrsinher Hair is an art name of a very talented Cape Town artist Jeanne-Marie Webb. FB community of artists often call her simply Flowers. She is indeed very beautiful flower-like gentle soul: JeanneMarieWebb01

So “Soulful Sisters” is my collaboration with her:

Jeanne Marie has visited me recently for a weekend of fun and inspiration. On a spur of the moment she suggested we make an artwork together, and we have filmed it along the way. We started with painting 2 faces on 1 large piece of paper, using only 1 reference (just to see where the light falls and to guide us in the color palette.)

Ok, are you ready to see the reference?!! I am closing my eyes now… 3-2-1… Ta-da!!!

What?! I know, right?! Flowrs hardly used the reference, she is rebellious like that. And I was like: “Hey! Are you using the reference?!” And she was be like: “Ummm… Hmmm… Yea…” I used it a lot! (That’s the way I paint). Somehow this lovely warm green have crept into our work and tied it all together. And the light fell where it should be.

She painted her side for a while and I painted mine, and then we swapped sides and interfered with each other’s work, then we swapped sides again and the artwork was done!

Magic happened! We are both in love with this work, but who gets to keep it? Tough decision… So, we have to sell it. It went to Flowrs shop.

And here is the video incase you missed it:

Thank you for viewing, we had fun!

Let's Face It!

Dear creative friends!

I cannot believe 2015 is coming to an end, and what a creative year it has been! I am almost overwhelmed to think about next busy year ahead of me. It seems like I will be teaching in 3 large workshops together with other teachers. Plus 3 entries for Stencil Girl Products – wow!

I know some of you have been asking my to refer you to a fresh face painting workshop out there, and I could not give a definite answer on it up until my new discovery now:

The recent invitation I have received and accepted was from all year round workshop “Let’s Face It 2016” hosted by wonderful Kara Bullock. 17 fabulous teachers will be presenting videos for the whole year on huge variety of techniques related to painting faces: realistic, expressive, whimsical, profiles, three quarter, face forward, with shoulders and even with whole body attached to it, lol. Everything is covered on faces, plus more. I will be doing face profile in acrylics with palette knives and later in the year whole body: face, figure, hands, feet, plus detailed composition all around, almost like in my workshop “Soulful Art” , but well different.

Prepare to be amazed! Who are the teachers? Some girls I know via FB and they are totally awesome: Olga Furman, Ivette Newport, Robin Laws, Angela Kennedy, and many more names you will recognize if you go to check out this page: LETS FACE IT

Look at some other teachers’ work! OMG, I wanna paint like that:

Juna Biagioni

Ady Almanza

Lucy Brydon

I will be honest, if I wasn’t invited as a teacher there – I would have signed up! Because it is always an awesome idea to learn painting faces from others. I adore faces and so very very excited to be a student of this course, let alone teaching in it!

I hope to see some of you on the workshop next year and lets create together. (Shshshsh.... I believe it is last couple of weeks of early bird discount there!)

Teaching on Life Book 2016 + Give Away time!

Hello dear artists-friends! Some really awesome news this time!

I am going to be teaching on Life Book 2016 next year! I feel very privileged and grateful, and humbled to be invited to teach amongst other 23 most incredible and talented teachers.

And even MORE exciting news is that I can give away 1 space on this amazing YEAR LONG art course! Keep reading if you want to find out more about Life Book 2016, and if you want to find out how you can win a spot! :)

First let me tell you a bit more about Life Book in case you haven't heard about it yet. “Life Book, a celebration and honouring of YOU” is a year-long mixed media art class organised by Tamara Laporte from Willowing Arts. Tam is joined by 23 incredible art teachers who are sharing their mixed media techniques, tips and tricks with you in well filmed exciting video tutorials weekly – FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. Themed around self-development and healing, you’ll be creating several loose mixed media art journal pages per month which by the end of the year you will bind into a glorious journal (a Life Book).

It’s like, you won’t be able to get away from being creative for the duration of 2016, constantly inspired, constantly stimulated. I personally need it in my life.

This is all very new for me, I only just found out about this Life Book now, and it’s been running for 5 years already with like 22 THOUSAND members on the (omg – where have I been?!). With 8.700 people who have done Life Book in previous years. I am like… speechless. And it’s suitable to all levels of art. Apparently the price is unbelievably good for a 1 year long workshop, so definitely check it out by clicking HERE.

I haven't fully developed my class idea yet. I am planning to come up with a class related to the style that you can see on the below painting, or who knows – maybe even something more awesome? :) It will all depend on a theme of the month that will be allocated to me, but regardless of the theme I will make sure to spoil you all with something very inspirational!

Registration for Life Book opens on October 5th 2015 and the class begins on January 1st 2016.

Keep this page bookmarked so that you can sign up the moment it goes on sale.

Misty Mawn -- artist I admire

I rarely become anyone’s fan, and have no favourite actor or singer, but I can honestly say (and I even blush admitting it), that I am a big fan of Misty Mawn. I adore her artwork, and probably saved all images I could find online into my folder “Misty Mawn”. I just checked, it’s 192 paintings in that folder. Cheez, it’s almost stalking on my part. There are several things that amaze me about her art: 1. Subject matter: these otherworldly, angel-like girls, pure and innocent looking, right down into your soul. 2. Technique: layer after layer after layer, tremendous build-up of texture and absence of lines, only forms, and if you have seen videos on her workshop – you’ll know what I mean. 3. Light: her addiction to white… well… addictive. That amount of light in her artworks, that touches you with its innate purity, always makes me wonder if it’s reflection of her beautiful soul. There you go, I made a confession. Please do share yours. Some of artworks by Misty Mawn. You can check out her blog here.
